The museum features numerous interactive art & science exhibitions, a children’s discovery center and a planetarium. Focused on celebrating the history and culture of the city and state are the museum's Illinois Folk Art Gallery, Illinois River Decoy and Jacquard Coverlet exhibitions. Hours of operation include Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10-5pm, Wednesday from 10-8pm and Sunday from 12-5pm.

African American Museum Hall of Fame
Established in 1987, the African American Museum Hall of Fame is a not for profit institution. Visitors can participate in interactive exhibits, and view displays which focus on African American life and culture.
